BIOS update

by shanghai sam . Updated 24 years, 4 months ago

Hardware: HP Pavillion 8665c
O/S: Windows 98 SE

I updated my BIOS per instructions on HP’s site (http://www.hp.com/cposupport/personal_computing/software/merc_210.exe.html) and the update was successful.

However, I am receiving error messageswhen rebooting.

During reboot, I receive the following error:
“Expansion ROM not initialized-PCI Mass Storage Controller on
Motherboard.”
Bus:01, Device:OB, Function:00
(Note: I have installed a SCSI card for an external hard drive. I have also added an additional 128kb of memory).
It gives me the option to hit F1 to enter set-up or F2 to resume.

If I hit F1: I change and save the new default BIOS. Then exit and it returns me to the same error message above.
If I hit F2: It asks me to proceed with an update (Y/N). If I choose
yes,
then I get the following error:
“Cannot flash when memory managers (e.g. EMM386) are present.”
If I choose no, then it reboots to windows.

I do not want to go through this process every time I reboot.

Please help so that I can boot without any errors.
