Black screen boot screen

Everytime i start my computor i get the menu safe start up. I dont get scan disk it goes hp screen then black screen with a count down to select and stays black screen until the computor completes it boot up. then everything works fine.i have tried every mode without a resolution. It start when i had a heavy graphics program it is like the the start system is stuck in this only screen mode can you help me please
