Boot error on Compaq notebook

by npike . Updated 24 years, 10 months ago

I seem to have a problem on boot up through the config check with an error message on initial boot. Windows does not come up automatically. The message reads with an alarm:
Fixed disk 0
605 diskette drive B type error run setup

There are two boxes at the bottom of the screen; one for boot to windows and the other into setup. When I go into setup the hardware list for boot is diskette A, CD-ROM, hard drive. Even when I change this and move hard drive to the first position I get the error. This error began to appear after I tried to format a disk I found lying around in the office. At this point I am able to view files on a floppy from drive A and format the drive, but am unable to read or write to the disk now without getting a BSOD. I have reinstalled the factory recovery disk, but still having a problem. This is a Compaq notebook. Has anyone got an idea of what has happened and what to do to correct?
