Browser problems

Lately I have noticed with both I.E. and
Netscape Communicator I have to type in .com
or the browsers go to a search page. Before
they would both go to the .com sight by default. I noticed the same thing at work using I.E only. I have tried everything I know to get it back to no avail. How can I get them to default to go to “.com” ?
