Cable Modems and changing machine name

We have users who are installing cable modems at home.
There are some Cable companies who use ISP’s
(Ex. Excite at Home) that require parameters on PC’s to be changed to access their Network. The machine name is required to be changed in order for the ISP to authenticate access and allow connection to their network.
This causes a problem for us, as we supply our users with laptops with a specific naming convention for their machine. We don’t want to deviate from that standard for security purposes. Do you know of any solution to this problem, or what have other companies done?
