Cannot Find Win.Com, unable to continue

I’m getting this error when booting up: C:\autoexec.bat: hibchk found on 1 lines Cannot find WIN.COM, unable to continue loading windows. Following that is a dos prompt. I tried replacing the win.com from an identical computer w/no change. It’s aweek old compaq presario 1800 running win98. Any help would be appreciated! thanx
