This one has me stumped…unless it’s a virus (which is what I suspect). Compaq Presario PII 300, Intel chipset mobo, Phoenix BIOS 4.0 Rel 6.0B. I just upgraded this system to Win98SE (up from Win95) about two months ago after reviving it from a virus (client’s son is a mad downloader of all types of files) and “all of a sudden” it can’t boot. Memory check goes fine but when it starts looking for system files I get a “Non-system disk error” message. I tried a floppy startup disk but got the same message.
I reset the boot sequence in the BIOS to C,A, CD-ROM but still no luck. I’m at a loss as to how to further isolate the problem, and have prepped the client for the possibility of replacing the mobo & hard drive. Any ideas? Mucho thanks..
