Card Modem

I have a CTX laptop with a PCMCIA modem card. The telephone connection to the ISP is through a ‘switchboard’, the client needs to dial ‘9’ to make an outside call. The modem connects to the ISP when connected to a phone line that does not require the initial ‘9’. The modem will dial, contact the ISP then disconnect. Any suggestions for a string that might work?
