CD Hangup

I have a AMD T-bird system, running windows ME with 384MB of ram.

Whenever I attempt to play a video file from my CD I can hear the unit constantly reving up and spinning down. The movie never plays and I have to reboot the system. The CD unit is a 24x IDE.

Any suggestion?
