CD Player audio cd CD-ROM Win98se

CD-ROM plays manually OK. CD Player window appears OK but gives “Data or no disk loaded” when the drive indicates thatCD is loaded .
File Types > EDIT shows “cdplayer.exe /play” in the “Applic. to use to perform action” window.
BUT no noise.Both CD-ROMs have cables attached & work fine in another partition.
Same problem using Creative CD player thru SoundBlaster PCI64 card.
Any help out there please.
