CD R/RW

My CD R/RW drive is not functioning properly. I run Win2000 Pro. When I place a blank cd in the drive I receive the message “please insert a disk into drive E. However it will acknowledge CD’s that have been written to. This situation does not allow me to copy anything to that drive. Is there a solution?
