CD-rewriter not reading cd’s

I have a dvd-drive and a cdrw drive but my cdrw drive does not detect or read cd’s when inserted.

The computer detects there is a cdrw and assigns it a letter and when you send the eject function from within windows to cdrw it does work.

Any suggestions on where to start?
