CD ROM WONT WORK

One day my CDROM stopped working. Thinking that it just must be the age of this unit, I replaced the CDROM. Still doesnt work. Replaced data ribbon, checked setup. Everything looks right. I thought maybe the power supply was going bad and replaced that too. STILL DOESN’T WORK. It sees it, says it is working properly but it will not read anything off it. HELP- Gateway g6-200 win98
