cdrom doesn’t recognize disk change inXP

I have a new Athlon 1.3 ghz with an epox 8kha+ mb and running windows xp home and 256 mb ddr ram. I have a new Polaroid 24X10X40 burner installed. When I boot up the machine and stick in a cdr which I know has something on it it shows up blank. Iload Nero burning rom software and say continue session and I can see the files on the cdr disk. I then go to my computer and look on drive D (the burner) and I can see the files. I then put in a different disk (which I think has been written witha burner) and it shows up blank, but I know there are files on it. I then put the first cdr disk back in and now it shows blank again too. Is it just a setting in XP or something? Thanks
