cdrom recogniton in win95

after installing win95 the cdrom does not respond. d: is in my computer but not in device mgr. add new hardware does not work. the cdrom is using msdos real mode drivers.
my question is: why didn’t win95 install protected mode drivers for cdrom on installation? and,what is the solution for this?
