Cdr&Zip drive on 2nd ide controller gone

by pablo3b . Updated 24 years, 7 months ago

installed a hard drive from my laptop with a new mobo (K7 athlon)and the old cdrom and zip have disappeared. I used to have a hdd with Win95 that worked with the drives.
Now with the new hdd they appear in BIOS as master and slave (jumpers correct) but in Win98 a little yellow exclammation point appears on the device – secondary ide controller (with a code 10 error in the details)
Both drives work with the old system. I have checked cables, jumpers. I even configured the cdrom as a slave andhooked it up on the primary controller with hdd. No cdrom drive letter in windows either, though it was there in bios. The cd has power, cds inserted spin as if being read but no action evident in windows. I looked at a registry fix which implied that the sytem was in msdos mode.(The key wasn’t there to delete or change.)Help, I want my 1.1Ghz computer!
