change speed of NIC?

I have a compaq Presario 5610 with PII350, the pc came with a ethernet card installed, all the documentation with pc says this card is used at 10mbps, on the device panel it shows installed is a fastethernet card, is it possible to find out if this card can operate at 100mbps? The pc shows on my switch as operating at 10mps while my other pcs show as 100mbps. For a small home network sharing a broadband connection, will I really notice the difference in speeds?
