Cleaning files for lease turnin

Excuse the kindergarten level question, but I’m a one-man company trying to be my own computer consultant. When I turn in a computer at lease end how do I clean everything off the computer? Does formatting the hard drive get rid of everything on thecomputer? Thanks!
