CMOS errors

On 2 machines, a Win98 and a Win NT 4.0, I’m getting Checksum errors, 271 time and data incorrect, 252 password incorrect. I’m guessing the battery died. Am I correct? Also, I understand BIOS settings can be lost when the battery dies. Can anyone tell me the best way to fix this issue?
