compatibility

I have a Abit KT7A Raid Mainboard,(not installed) I ordered a AMD 1.0Ghz Thunderbird chip,But I think I got a AMD Athlon chip.Are these the same?If not will the Athlon work with my KT7A Raid mainboard.Already had it installed together,but had many errors including no boot ups sometimes,errors when downloading games etc.. from cd’s such as “Fatal exceptions”Access,”exception occured” at diff. areas. cannot find file something.dll,It also wouldnt load windows 2nd addition.I had a good tech check it out and he determined the Header was bad in the mainboard.All other stuff checked out good Memerory, drives etc…So Im not sure if the mainboard and chip are compatiable.
