Computer HD problems

I have a computer here at work that I beleive the HD controller on the motherboard has died. I have tired new HD’s and IDE cables that I know are good and work in other machines and none seem to work. I have also tried a new system battery just incase that was the problem and that did not solve the problem. The bios will not auto detect the HD and when i enter the info it does not save the info. Does anyone else have any other suggestions I could try or is it time to get a new PC. The system that has died is an old P133 we have at work.
