Computer upgrade

I own an old PC,config:Intel PII processor, with 32 MB RAM and 4 GB HDD. I would like to upgrade it to 256 MB SDRAM and 40 GB HDD with a 8MB AGP card. can somebody tell me how to check the compatibility of my mother board with these things?
