Computer won’t wake up

Win98 SE, programs will download for periods of time, then can periodically check by moving the mouse and the monitor comes on and all is OK, but occasionally (happening more frequently) the mouse movement will not wake up the ‘puter. The only way to access (with data loss) is to hard re-boot. Sometimes only CTRL ALT Del will work. Any suggestions? Please
