Connecting CD and DVD to soundcard

I have a Sound Blaster 16 and I would like to connect both my cd and dvd to the soundcard. The soundcard has two input ports. I have connected the dvd to slot 2 and the cd to slot 1. But I am only getting sound from the DVD. Is there any settingI need to change? Any suggestions?
