Create Fields In Word 2000 Precedents

Can anyone please give me a shortcut for creating 1 column of text with 1 column of fields opposite, fields to line up under decimal points? The only way I have been told about is to do this in tables, then right align the fields in cells where I want decimal figures to be typed in, then take out all the lines in the table. Surely either a shortcut hot key can be created, as in WordPerfect, or a macro for all this?

Also, I need to create a dropdown field in a footer, but have been told this is an impossibility.
