defrag

All of a sudden my PC will not defrag.It also will not shut down.I have and auto shut off and when I click on shut down I get the error message to hit any key windows has a conflict.When I hit a key the screen locks up,and I have to manually shut down the PC,which causes it to run a scan disk when I restart.Whats me problem.
