Dial-Up versus Leased Line

We are using Platinum/Batchmaster, a Financial/Manufacturing Applications running under Pervasive SQL 7 database engine.

My question is, why is it we are able to connect and use these applications using dial-up while we failed running the same applications over leased line (64kbps)?
