Difficulty with sound

My sound on an IBM thinkpad 600x would not put out at a very high level (real quiet) so I uninstalled the driver thinking it conflicted with morpheous that was just installed. Now I can not seem to make anything work and do not know how to diagnose this problem. Do not know if it is the device or if I have the proper driver reinstalled. I have tried trouble shooting the drive (win 2000 wizard). I’ve gone to the ibm site that says the driver for win 2000 is in the directory…well that does not work…

any advice will be wellcome.
