digital camcorder

by keith.patterson . Updated 24 years, 1 month ago

I have recently upgraded the RAM on a PC for 128 MB RDRAM to 384 MB. Howvere since upgrading there have been problems with the firewire connection to a digital camcorder which connects to the PC. In device managet the IE firewire appears and windows (98 SE)reports no problems with the device. However when the camcorder is connected tio the PC and powered up the PC becomes very sluggish and slow to respond. I have looked for the DV camcorder device in all sections of the Device manager but cannot find any mention of it. ie that windows is detecting it ok. The Firewire card is suing IRQ3 and is not sharing this with any other device. I have downloaded Microsoft DV camcorder support and installed this but the same think keeps happening. I have aslo removed the card amd moved it to a different PCI slot and re-installed th Pinnacle Studio DV software. I have the latest version of direct X on the PC. Does anyone have any idea what has happened and what the problem might be. I am at a loss on what to try next or how to get windows to detect this device. Is it a hardware/software problem? A windows problem any help would be greatly appreciated
