Direct Cable Network Problems

I am trying to build home network. It would contain only 2 computers through the Direct Cable Connection. Both computers have Windows 98 installed.

I experience 2 major problems:

1. I cannot go to the Internet through Dial-Up Coonection and at the same time connect my computers by Direct Cable Conection.

2. I cannot activate The Internet sharing function on any of my computers. Windows says that I don’t have networking hardware and it would continue with activation. Could you tell me if there is any way I can activate Intenet Sharing function or not.
