Disk Write Error

A recent problem that has only just started happening on my machine. A Disk Write Error occurs whenever I execute a programme, stating “unable to write to disk in drive c: Data or files may be lost. Press any key to continue”. Can anybody explain why this is suddenly occuring and what I can do to resolve it??
