Display problem

Hi, I’m having problems with my display.

I’m using a s3 savage3d pci graphics card and a nec multisync v700 monitor.
recently, I have changed my win98 display settings from 800×600 16-bit to 640×480 256 colors.
After i restarted my computer, irealised that my display was 800×600 with only 16 colors!!
Now, whenever i change my display settings, my computer will automatically change my settings back to 800×600 16 colors.
At first i thought it was a driver problem so i downloaded one fromhttp://sdn.fgn.com/files/drivers/savage3d/ref/61328w9x.zip
and i installed it.
This however, did not help and my display remained the same. Can someone please help me with this?
