Dock Change Screen

When booting up a Notebook computer which has more than one profile, firstly i am getting the DOS screen asking which profile I would like to use. After selecting i then get a second Blue Screen (Dock Change) asking me exactly the same question, stating that “Windows is unable to determine your hardware profile is A the current profile. select Y for Yes and N for No” although this is simple enough to do I do not understand why the computer is going thro the same process twice. Is there any way of getting rid of the second screen? This problem only occurs on those notebooks running Win98 SE. Thanx L
