driver load problem

I have a cdrom that is connected to my sound card. Therefore I have to create config.sys on the startup disk with a path to the cdrom driver which is currently installed on my c drive. right? this is what I was told .I have done this but my system is freezing either at the logo screen or the dos prompt stating that it is loading win 95. I currently am in the process of loading win 95 from a cdrom. My drive is formatted and clean. When I get my cdrom to be recognized I hope I can then load 98. Any assistance would be great theanks
