Drop Down Menu

Is it possible to remove the option to have the drop down menu automatically come down when some one types in the first letter in the address bar?? If an employee types “a” then all the addresses I used with an “a” become public knowledge in my office. How can I stop this from occuring.Is it even possible?? I am running win98 second edition.
