DVD has no overlay.

I have a HP Pavilion 8370 with an OEM DVD Rom. When I try and watch certain DVDs the sound will play, but where the picture should be all I get are diagonal black adn yellow lines with a message in the center, “Display Overlay not Available.” I would like to know how to get around this if it’s even possible. Thank You.
I would also like to know how to copy a DVD if it’s even possible.
