Endless HD activity by Dialup Networking

Hi,
I’m running an NT workstation (Ver. 4, SP 6a) on a pentium 166 digital pc. When I start dialup networking, my HD lights start running like mad. This happens with no regard to a specific browser or any other communication related application.
How to I solve this problem?
