error writing to disk press any key

Hi, Running win98 se on a new self built system.
During the installation of MS works I get a message saying error writing to disk press any key to continue. After pressing key a message one of your disk may have errors or a bad sector, run scandiskto correct the problem. I run scandisk and it then does thorough and finds nothing. After reboot it does the scandisk message and runs.
