Exchange Optimizer

I am currently running MS Exchange 5.5 with SP3 and needed to do some rearranging of the locations of files and partitions on my servers hard drive. I am trying to use the MS Exchange Optimizer to move the information stores and logs to a new empty10gb partition. Upon attempting to move the files the optimizer stops responding. Is there any reason for this or is there another way to get the information stores and log files moved to where I need them to go?
