I have an old home machine which is running Windows 98 Second Edition.
I have for a long time experienced problems with windows explorer and subsequently with Internet explorer and AOL.
Basically everytime I use any of the three above I am given illegal operations wanings and am told that the offending program will be shut down.
I have tried re-formatting and re-installing but the problem recurrs instantly.
As a result I have changed my shell from Windows explorer to Litestep Now. However, I have even started getting similar messages concerning other programs, sometimes relating to Kernell32.dll, sometimes to Apitrap32.dll and sometimes to other programs.
However they all seem to have the “32.dll” extension in common.
Microsoft’s help site suggested deleting the “.pwl” file, but this only seemed to work for a very short period.
I have been advised that it must be a registry problem but have no idea haow to sort it.
I would, in the end, like to return to Windows explorer, so any help would be very well accepted.
The copy of Windows 98 Second Edition came pre-installed so I don’t think I have any recourse there.
Many Thanks for your time and help,
