Fatal exception error

I just loaded mcafee anti-virus software on a windows 98 se os. I followed all the install rules: closed all apps, etc. after installation, I re-booted the pc and I immediately received this error: “a fatal exception 0e has occurred at 0028:00006ecb”. This error came up immediately or during the mcafee sheild icon is display on the screen. If I removed the mcafee from start up and re-boot my pc, I don’t get this message. I uninsatalled mcafee,removed any reference of it in the registry, re-installed it and still received the same message. Can anyone help with this or point me to where I can find a resolution to this problem. I have already when to “technet” but couldn’t find a resolution.
