Fatal Exceptions at Shut Down

I have had an ongoing problem with my Gateway, OS Windows 98 2nt edition 4.10222A. 99% of the time I receive a Fatal Exception at shut down, they vary..examples are: OE C0031ca8 called from 0028:c00301F9 in Vxd,OE at COZ AZ20CC In VXD VWIN32(05)+00000BF4,and OE at 0028:BFF88112. I can not continue and must shut down from the tower. I called Gateway and they had me install patches which corrected the problem for a day, and then right back to the same problem. HELP!
