Faxing from W2k machine

The PC is 1.9MHz, 40GB disk, MOT SM56 modem, using WINFAX 10.0. The PC is new. The Disk is from the old PC. The operating system is Windows 2000 Pro.

I can send faxes and I seem to be receiving them up to the point of print or file. The error message is “reception error.” WINFAX support believes that IRQ 17 is the problem and that the IRQ should be between 1 and 15. In WIN2K the assignment of IRQ is automatic and cannot be changed.

Microsoft has not been able to suggest a successful solution. Has anyone had a similar experience? Have you found a solution?
