Floppy Disk drive very slow

Using W2K OS but occasionally have to use DOS based programs, eg Drive Image. In this particular case the program is very slow to respond, mouse almost hangs. So slow as to be not worth using. Computer is P111, 390 Mbs Ram, plenty of HDD space. Is this due to something in configuration? How to I speed the floopy drive up? Other PCs using W2K are much quicker when running out of floppy drive.
