Floppy drive not working.

I have a brand new Micron Millennia PIII 667 Mhz. I have used a defective floppy without notice and ever since my drive is not able to read or write any floppies. I keep receiving this message: General failure reading drive a. (R/A/F) everytime I try to use the drive.
How can I resolve this ?
