Games freeze

Whever I play a game such as the sims..the game will lock up and I have to reset my computer..I have tried changing the UDMA and updating directtX and installing new graphics drivers but seem to be at a loss…I dont want to go fiddling inside my comp, is there any other answer to my problem??
