GeForce 2 MX Refresh Rate problems

by mapp84 . Updated 24 years, 11 months ago

I posted here a couple of days ago with a problem with my GeForce 2. The problem has been whittled down to a refresh rate problem. Here is the problem in as much detail as possible. Again, I’m low on funds so I would like to try and fix it without replacing hardware if possibl3e.

System configuration
M/B: Azza PT-5VMD
CPU: AMD K6/2 450
RAM: 64MB 168 pin DIMMS
Sound: Sound Blaster Live! 1024
Graphics: Creative 3DB GeForce 2 MX
TV Card: Pinnacle PCTV Rave
Monitor: GreenView GM-6448 (about 5 years old)

Here is what the problem is:
When I start the PC I am unable to get a video signal. I don’t get a signal until I’m into Windows, when I can only get it by turning the monitor off and on again. The same problems occur if I try to open a full DOS window or launch andything that goes outside of the Windows Desktop.

When I access either the Creative BlasterControl panel or Windows Display settings, and try to change the resolution to 640×480, the display will either be lost asit does during bootup (and I can’t get the signal back by turning off and on the monitor) or it appears as a very short and wide image that is extremely bright.

I’ve tried different combinations of resoultion changes and refresh rates, and one ofthree things happen in each case:

1. The display will be lost and I have to switch back to the previous resolution and turn off and on the monitor.

2. The signal appears but the screen is very bright, short and wide.

3. The signal is lost at first but I get it back by turning off and on hte monitor.

I’m using the latest drivers for my GeForce 2 (Creative’s 6.50 drivers) and when I shutdown the PC the same thing happens (I lose the signal). I can’t access or flash the bios as it needs to be in pure DOS or startup, both of which denies me a signal.

I am grateful for any assistance people can offer me.
Thanks in advance
-Marc
