grinding noise

I’ve had a soft grinding noise coming from my computer when I boot it up after it’s been off for a while. It only does it for about 15 seconds a little after I turn on the computer. If I turn it off and back on or just restart it doesn’t do it again. I figure that it’s my secondary hard drive and that it’s not good, but I’m just wondering if anyone has had this problem and what exactly is happening.
