I have an IBM Aptiva 2176-C32 running WIN95 on a Pentium 133MHz. I added a Quantum 20.5GB AT Fireball Plus AS hard drive. I used Quantum’s Disk Manager Ver 9.52 to partition and format the drive since the latest BIOS update still on recognized up to 8MB. After setting the jumpers to make the new drive the Master on the Primary Controller, I did a fresh install of WIN98. After the files copied, a search was completed for hardware and I was instructed to reboot. The machine stopped in the middle of restaring. I booted in Safe Mode and found the problem to be with the hard disk controllers. When I disable the Primary and Secondary Standard IDE Controllers, leaving the Standard Dual PCI controller active, I can boot in the normal mode, but my drives are put in DOS Compatability mode. I have tried using both dual fifo and single fifi, but neither works. On the drive with WIN95, which boots perfectly, it is using single fifo for both the primary and secondary controllers and the standard dual PCI controller. There is nothing else on the IRQs 14 and 15. I tried manually deleting the controllers in regedit also, but on boot, they are reinstalled with the same results. Any guidance would be much appreciated! Please respond tomy alias “mwelcher@wi.rr.com”. Thanks in advance!
