Hard disk controllers not configured pro

While running win98 s/2 on a IBM Think Pad 600, under System Properties, Devise Manager, the hard disk controllers lists a Intel 82371 AB/EB PCI BUS Master IDE Controller @ IRQ 14. Below that are two Standared BUS Mastering IDE hard disk Controller. One @ IRQ 14 and one @ IRQ 15. The Intel 82371 AB/EB has an “!” in frount of it and none of the setings can be changed. I have remover these configuerations and rebooted only to find them re installed. Any ideas as to how I can resolve this conflict?
